2020 is still not done tormenting us. From COVID-19 to fires in Chernobyl, now we have had massive wildfires on the west coast of the US. From Oregon to California, blazes have been suffocating residents, with scenes of red skies that seem like out of a movie.
But massive fires like this bring about toxic smoke-filled with PM10 and PM2.5 particulate matter. These are small particles that are hard to see, yet once you breathe a lot of them in, they start causing lots of issues to the human body. The WHO estimates that every year, 7 million people die due to exposure to air pollution. It’s super important to know what we breathe, so this is where AirCare comes in!
Launch in US and Canada
We have now added over 7,000 sensors in the US and Canada from the two biggest data providers (EPA and PurpleAir). And boy, have people loved it.
In the first 7 days of the launch, we’ve had over 100.000 new downloads to the app, something that took us years to reach when we launched in 2015. And all of this organic, with 0 marketing.
Due to the wildfires, a lot of people were looking for ways of reading air quality in a simple and understandable way, and AirCare’s app, it the go-to. The reviews blew us away even more, with comments like “indispensable” and “godsend.”
You have to know; we are a team of 2 eco-activists working full time on AirCare for over five years. This is our passion, and in Europe, we’ve led massive protests against corrupt governments that do not care about the environment. To see AirCare grow so fast is a dream come true for us. ?
For our users, we’ve been working like crazy in the past couple of weeks, pushing out updates almost daily based on your feedback. Some of the things that are in the works now:
- Bringing back the wind map
- Making better statistics
- Pollution prediction
Thank you so much for being part of this journey and joining in the fight for clean air!
